Tour Description
A gondola ride in Florence offers a unique way to experience the beauty and history of Florence, Italy, from the tranquil waters of the Arno River.
Unlike Venice’s famous gondolas, Florence has its own version, often called “barchetti” or “renaioli,” which are traditional flat-bottomed boats historically used to transport building materials down the river.
Our journey begins at Ponte alle Grazie and covers the entire
navigable portion of the Arno between the Pescaia di San Niccolò
and the Pescaia di Santa Rosa, the two waterfalls that
have regulated the flow of the river since the Middle Ages.
We glide
silently past the Uffizi and the Vasari Corridor to admire the
Ponte Vecchio from below and the part of the city full of
history, stately palaces and austere towers.
We pass the Church of the Holy Apostles and the church of
San Jacopo Soprarno, which shows us the apse on the surface
of the water.
We wave to the rams that guard the river from the
bridge of Santa Trinita and fly over Palazzo Corsini, then
we approach the Ponte alla Carraia and return to our boarding point, near the Chamber of Commerce.
The boat is being led by a Renaiolo who can provide some
information about Florence and what can be seen from the boat.
